Ssangleong Visionary
Soon Beng Lien began his journey as a production assistant at a paper bag factory to support his family, taking on responsibilities beyond his years. Every day, he witnessed the sacrifices his loved ones made, fueling his determination to build a brighter future for them.
In the 1970s, while many overlooked the unfamiliar, Lien recognised the untapped potential of jumbo bags, a rare sight in Southeast Asia. Encouraged by his employer and the unwavering support of his family, he took a bold leap into the industrial packaging of jumbo bags.
The journey was anything but easy. He faced doubts, encountered seemingly unbeatable setbacks, and confronted moments when giving up would have been the easiest choice. Yet, Lien pressed on, driven by a vision larger than himself. His perseverance bore fruit: by the 1980s, he had established factories in Changzhou and Qingdao, igniting hope within his community.
Lien’s story is a testament to the power of resilience, love for family, and the courage to dream big. It shows us that with determination and heart, even the simplest idea can change the world.
